Rhododendron
A soil in which colourful rhododendrons thrive: a mottled sandstone weathering with the ideal pH value.
The name rhododendron comes from the Greek words for rose (rhodon) and tree (dendron). They occur naturally in the wild throughout most of the northern hemisphere in areas with a temperate climate, where they are predominantly found in mountainous regions. The large array of rhododendrons in the Friedrich Eberts Arboretum is all thanks to the expertise of the Eberts Nursery, which took full account of the prevailing local conditions when planting unsold stock.
