Incense Cedar
A gardener brings together plants from all over the world - and they all thrive here, peacefully side by side. A good example for us too.
The incense cedar (Calocedrus decurrens) can live for up to 500 years in its natural habitat which spans from the southwestern part of the United States to northwestern Mexico. Here, its wood is used as a veneer and for shingles in house construction. During processing, the wood releases an intense fragrance that can be sensed from afar, hence its common name. Its high tolerance to drought is the result of a well-developed root system.
