Welcome to the Jagdhäuser Forest trailhead
Welcome to Baden-Baden’s Municipal Recreational Forest and the North/Central Black Forest Area of Outstanding Beauty ("Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord").
The walkers’ car park at Jagdhäuser Wald is situated on the edge of the "Markbach und Jagdhäuser Wald" nature conservation area, a delightful spot for pleasant walks through lush deciduous forests and picturesque meadow orchards.
This conservation area protects a characteristic landscape of foothills where loess sediments dominate the soil. The fertile ground and favorable climatic conditions of the slopes are ideal for agriculture, particularly for wine and fruit growing, as well as some arable farming. The resulting patchwork of small plots is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, making it an especially attractive area for walkers. A highlight of the walk is the uninterrupted view of the Rhine plain from the "Dragonerdenkmal," a war memorial.
The loess soil is evident in the forests, with a rich layer of ground vegetation that is particularly impressive in spring when the air is filled with the irresistible scent of wild garlic. Another distinctive feature is the deep furrows in the loess soil that crisscross the forest floor. The best way to explore the forests and meadow orchards of this conservation area is on the "Sängerrundweg" circular route.
Fremersberg Mountain, offering some of the most stunning views in Baden-Baden, is also reachable from the Jagdhäuser Wald trailhead. From the summit, you can gaze down on the verdant green of Baden-Baden, framed by the peaks of Battert, Merkur, and Yburg. On clear days, you can see the entire western flank of the Rhine Valley, stretching from Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the Vosges Mountains to the south, all the way to Kalmit, the highest mountain in the Palatinate Forest to the north.
